6 clips from Hot Fuzz

During Media last week we had to watch and then analyse the begining of Hot Fuzz.
A action packed comedy wereSimon Pegg plays Sgt.Nicolas Angel, metropolotant police force London. Throughout the beginning there is a range of different techniques I'm going to focus on the Representation.

This clip is taken from the begining of the film, Simon Pegg is walking into
the police station. Because of the editing his face has been almost shadowed
out of the shot, to show that the police in general is not liked by the people.
But at the time this golden light makes Sgt.Nicholas seem like an Angel by
having a halo around him.

The next clip that I have chosen is when Sgt. Nicholas is introduced
to the camera, the camera man uses a close up to show that Sgt. Nicholas
has no emotion and is always serious about his job and career. It also creates
an imposing view of the police showing aggression and authority.

There is only about a second between these two clips but they are both very
important. This clip has a voice over where Sgt.Nicholas is about to tell you
about what he has done for the police force. On his ID card is his name
Nicholas Angel, linking back to the first scene with the golden light around
him to show that he is very good at what he does. But Nicholas could
be shortened to Nick, will there be a bad side to him ?

During the next clip the director has thought about it very carefully, the camera
angle that is used creates the effect that Sgt. Nicholas is looking down on the
audience. This shows that he is very high up in the police. Also the in the
background is lots of straight lines like behind bars in prison referring back
to the last point I made about Nick.

The next clip shows how Sgt. Nicholas working in the community
communicating with the public being friendly. This shows that
he has power and people are not afraid to talk to him about problems.
He must of been working in this area for a long time and people trust
him.

The last clip that I am going to talk shows the viewer that Sgt.Nicholas
always wants to be bettering himself. He is very good in all areas including
driving and cycling, although the cycling has a slightly funny side to it
and is hard to take seriously, almost "uncool"skills. There is a lot of
quick images throughout this clip showing that he is always moving
on to new activities or ideas.

  1. Great work Dan. A really good start to the term. You make very good points and support them with clear and interesting explanations.

Keep up the good work Dan.
